The Narwhal Chronicles |
"Believe in yourselves. Dream. Try. Do good." |
The laws in the Old Testament were set forth by God as the rules the Hebrews needed to follow in order to be righteous, to atone for the sin of Adam and Eve and to be able to get into Heaven. That is also why they were required to make sacrifices, because it was part of the appeasement for Original Sin.
According to Christian theology, when Jesus came from Heaven, it was for the express purpose of sacrificing himself on the cross so that our sins may be forgiven. His sacrifice was supposed to be the ultimate act that would free us from the former laws and regulations and allow us to enter Heaven by acting in his image. That is why he said “it is finished” when he died on the cross. That is why Christians don’t have to circumcise their sons (God’s covenant with Jacob), that is why they don’t have to perform animal sacrifice, or grow out their forelocks, or follow any of the other laws of Leviticus.
When you quote Leviticus as God’s law and say they are rules we must follow because they are what God or Jesus wants us to do, what you are really saying, as a Christian, is that Christ’s sacrifice on the cross was invalid. He died in vain because you believe we are still beholden to the old laws. That is what you, a self-professed good Christian, are saying to your God and his son, that their plan for your salvation wasn’t good enough for you.
So maybe actually read the thing before you start quoting it, because the implications of your actions go a lot deeper than you think.
-An atheist who understands Christian theology better than Bible-thumpers do.
THAT’S RIGHT, STUDY THE BIBLE.
I very much agree with the standings against the laws set forth in Leviticus, and I also believe that we were rescued by Christ and were released from the oppression of the old law when Jesus died on the cross, a symbol of the ultimate sacrifice. However, there is talk of homosexuality in the new testament, and it is set forth as a sin (1 Corinthians 6: 9 and forward). Does this allow Christians to mistreat/judge/harm/condemn or oppress the LGBT community? Absolutely not. Because, we are commanded to love our God and to love all people around us with no judgement. There is an argument about the terminology, in the ESV the verse uses the word “homosexuality”, in the KJV it is “effeminate”, and in others, such as the NIV, it uses the phrase “men who have sex with men”. However, no matter the word choice the original greek text refers to both the passive and active participants in same gender sex. There are many different opinions on this topic, and honestly according to Christianity and the Bible, it is wrong. According, to the laws set forth by the US constitution, the government is betraying citizens of their rights, and should change their ways. As a youth pastor, I firmly believe in the equal treating of all people, regardless of what and who they are, and just because the Bible outlines something as a sin, gives no right for anybody else, to attack or judge another person. There is no hierarchy of sin and there are no unforgivable sins and as long as I am alive, I will stand by the oppressed, and work to restore the church to what it should be, and will raise a new, accepting, loving, generation of followers. The scripture shows us how addiction, anger, divorce, alcoholism, lust, and many other things are wrong and ignoring these things is not right either. I am sure of the fact that the church gets it wrong, often, and to be quite honest, I hate most churches and the way they operate and abuse power. We need to fix ourselves, before we try to fix anybody else.
I also understand the Stephen Colbert is a comedian, and I enjoy watching his program almost everyday. So, by no means do I condemn his programs or jokes. :)

My little brother got into outer space and stuff so my step-mom bought him a place mat with all the planets on it. When I first saw it, I was upset, because it was newer and so Pluto wasn’t labeled. I was about to say something when I noticed something…
Pluto is there.
The artist remembered Pluto.
Guys…
The artist drew Pluto crying.

Art Going Through the Motion: Robin Rhode
Rhode’s art combines performance and drawing to simulate motion on the streets of his native Johannesburg. By redrawing each new frame on top of the previous frame the division between them blurs which both creates a fluidity within the work and exposes the actions performed between frames.
